| Lufkin - Coach John Outlaw (82-28-0) at Lufkin and (220-72-3) Overall, Offense (Shotgun), Defense (4-2-5), returns 30 letterman 5 offensive 4 defensive starters with 36 letterman lost from a (9-2) 5A Div. II Bi-district playoff team. Overall Strength (both offense and defense), Strengths on offense (running back), Strengths on defense (defensive line). Notes from the Coach: In the double round robin format the last two years, took a tool on the teams and some of the state's best rivalries. So the chance to see some new faces is in a way exciting. There are some good football teams in the new district, but there is something about not playing the same team every three weeks. Replacing 12 kids that will be playing college football next year (8 division I) will be tough, but fortunately we have some young kids that can really run. |

| Conroe The Woodlands - Coach Mark Schmid, Offense (Multiple I), Defense (Multiple), returns 20 letterman 2 offensive 6 defensive starters with 35 letterman lost from a (14-1) 5A Div. I State Finalist playoff team. Strengths on offense (running back, offensive line), Strengths on defense (linebacker, defensive line). Notes from the Coach: After reaching the State Finals in 2003, the Highlanders have high expectations, with serious skill positions holes to fill. Graduating QB Jordan Dodson, WR Danny Amendola, RB Samson Taylor and WR Mike Cambell combined for 90 percent of the highlanders offense in 2003. Replacements QB's Greg Meinzer and Austin Hutson, RB's Cameron Montgomery and Chris Burns, WR's Eric Paul , Ben Melear and Kyle Drabek will have to step up fast as the Highlanders open with Eisenhower, Northshore, and Humble. The offense has help in that the Highlanders return 4 offensive lineman, led by Marshall Jordan, who saw action in 2003. Also TE Kyle Anderson (6'6'' 260), should be as good as it gets being a devastating blocker and pass catcher. Defensively returning six starters the Highlanders should be much improved, with tackles Brooks Dorsett, Hunter Smith and Jon Merrick. The linebackers are all returning letterman AJ Montalvo, Craig Hendrix, and Nick Reinsvold, returning letterman DJ Smalls moves to safety to join 2-year starter Wayne Hrozek. The corner postion will be filled be Derek McCants who may see action on both sides of the ball. The defense carries the Highlanders early as the young skill guys gel, but come late November and early December look to see the Highlanders still playing. |
